🌍Overview
An overview of the Broadcaster system
The Broadcaster system
The Broadcaster system consists of two main applications, Broadcaster and Receiver. Together with the two supporting software programs, Broadcaster Manager and Install Script Maker, they are intended to replace the following legacy systems:
RA
SUS
SUS-website
HeadsMaintenanceService
HeadsServiceControl
An instance of Broadcaster runs centrally in each Heads setup, and an instance of Receiver runs on each client, such as Points of Sale, back office clients etc.
With the Broadcaster system, we aim to replace these existing systems and:
Enable connection of Heads clients over the internet
Streamline the configuration of the Heads system using client-server architecture
Facilitate scripting for the installation of a set of client software on one or multiple client computers, allowing for automated workflows
Transition to a more modern and secure technology stack.
Broadcaster can run either on the same computer as the Heads Retail Server, or on a different computer using the RUFUS tools to move replication files. It can even run parallel to RA, making it possible to roll out Broadcaster-powered clients a few at a time during a transition period. It can run both on private networks and be accessible over the internet. We can set the port and URL for the Broadcaster in the Broadcaster configuration – and when making the Broadcaster accessible over the internet, a proxy is commonly used outside the Broadcaster. It is important to use a TLS certificate with the proxy to secure internet traffic with HTTPS.
System administrators and support personnel can use the support software Broadcaster Manager to, for example, deploy updates, manage replication and run remote software installations in the Broadcaster system. When installing client software, such as the WPF client, on one or multiple client computers, Install Script Maker can be used to generate custom scripts tailored to the specific needs of the customer.
